Rodri Hints at Spain Chances of Reaching Euro 2020 Knock-outs

Spain star midfielder Rodri is adamant Luis Enrique’s team will make it out of the group stage despite a sluggish start to their Euro 2020 journey. La Furia Roja were held to a dismal 1-1 draw to Poland in their second match in Group E on Saturday.

After playing out a scoreless draw against Sweden in their tournament opener, Spain were desperate to bounce back against underperforming Poland that lost 2-1 to Slovakia on Matchday 1. However, the pressure continues to mount on Enrique and his players as they failed to overcome Paulo Sosa’s side on home soil.

Alvaro Morata opened the scoring at Estadio La Cartuja to fire Spain to a half-time lead. Bayern Munich powerhouse Robert Lewandowski canceled out the Spaniard’s opener seven minutes into the second half with a towering header before Villarreal’s Gerard Moreno hit the post from the spot.

Another stalemate leaves Spain with two points from as many matches as they head into their Matchday 3 encounter with Slovakia in a desperate need for all three points. La Furia Roja now face the risk of failing to progress from the European Championships group stages for the first time since the 2004 edition.

But, Rodri, who returned to the starting line-up in the absence of Sergio Busquets, is confident his side will reach the knock-outs.

We are frustrated, that much is evident. The keyword is frustration,” he told a post-match interview with Telecinco, as relayed by Mundo Deportivo.

The ball does not want to go in the goal and the pitch is not in the best condition to play against a defensive team. I don’t see any team winning easily and any game is measured by the small details.

When you don’t score, the doubts come in. But we have a final ahead of us against Slovakia. Football owes us a favor, and I hope the fans are with us. I am sure we will pass into the knockouts. But it depends on us.
