The Milan giants are not only in the race to the 2021/22 Serie A title. Both Inter and Milan will also reportedly tussle in the transfer market for a certain 20-year-old defender from Empoli.
According to reports from La Gazzetta dello Sport (via MilanNews), the duo are in a close race to secure the services of Empoli centre-back Mattia Viti. This is the Empoli Primavera product’s first full professional season in the top-flight, having only made his debut in September 2020. And so far, he has impressed both sides of the Milan divide.
With a transfermarkt value of €4m, he is an affordable purchase for either club. His contract at the Tuscan club expires only in the summer of 2025.
The left-footed defender has gained plaudits for his technicality, offensive capabilities and physicality. Both the Rossoneri and Nerazzurri are in search of a young stopper capable of leading from the back and Viti’s name is high among the list of transfer targets.
He has 16 appearances for Empoli this season, registering 1,220 minutes in total. Also, he has regularly appeared for the Azzurri youth national teams, from the U15 to the U20 level.
