Milan Coach Pioli Wants to Avoid Inter and Napoli UCL Meeting

Milan cruised to the quarter-finals of the UEFA Champions League for the first team in 11 years thanks to Brahim Diaz’s solitary first-leg goal that gifted them a 1-0 aggregate win against Tottenham Hotspur. Rossoneri coach Stefano Pioli is backing his side to go further than the last eight but is wary of the threat the Italian teams – Napoli and Inter – possess.

In his post-match press conference, Pioli revealed what he anticipates at the deeper end of the continental tournament.

“Everything is possible, because that’s the way it is: there’s nothing for granted in football, but we have to do what we’ve done up to now. Now it would be very important to get through to the quarterfinals.” (via MilanNews)

Inter and Napoli both have leads from their first-leg victories going into their respective return legs, and Pioli wants to avoid them both in the next round.

“They deserve it, Italian football is growing. I hope I don’t meet the Italian teams. Milan haven’t made it to the Champions League for years, last year we struggled more. Experiences have improved us, let’s face these challenges with the right spirit”.

Pioli’s Rossoneri resume their league season against Salernitana before visiting Udinese and then Napoli after the international break.
