Sassuolo Enter Serie A Waitlist for Empoli Starlet Mattia Viti

20-year-old Empoli starlet Mattia Viti has another Italian suitor waiting in line, after both Milan giants made their interest known earlier. The Italy U20 center-back is reportedly being eyed by Sassuolo, according to reports from Calciomercato (via SassuoloNews).

The Neroverdi have never held back from developing youth talent. They have produced several Azzurri star youngsters in recent years, including Manuel Locatelli, Domenico Berardi, Gianluca Scamacca and Davide Frattesi, among other impressive players. The Emilia-Romagna outfit are keen on bolstering their defence and Viti is said to perfectly match their requirements.

Empoli coach Andreazzoli’s faith in the youngster has pushed him to become a starter for the club, but he is currently suffering a rough patch due to injuries. Nevertheless, clubs have lined up for his services.

Milan and Inter are both seeking a young defender, given both the San Siro natives’ problems with their respective backlines. Juventus, Fiorentina, Atalanta and Napoli are keeping close tabs too, but a move to Sassuolo might prove to be fruitful for the starlet due to a potential increase in game time under Alessio Dionsi.

Viti, who takes inspiration from Sergio Ramos and Paolo Maldini, is a left-footed defender, just like the legendary Rossonero. He is contracted until 2025 with the Tuscan club, who will look to cash in on their youth product with an asking price of atleast €15-20m.
