Milan Pleased with Kalulu Growth, New Contract Forthcoming

Pierre Kalulu has been the main beneficiary from the fact that Milan did not sign a new defender in January. The Rossoneri insistently pursued Sven Botman and other options. In the end, they did not want to make a rash investment. Instead, they opted to trust the Frenchman and Matteo Gabbia to fill in when needed.

The youngster has repaid them and has done when called upon. He had an impressive outing while going mano-a-mano with Victor Osimhen in Sunday’s clash with Napoli. He has featured in several matches because Fikayo Tomori and Alessio Romagnoli have alternatively missed time due to injury in the last couple of months. Simon Kjaer is out for the season with an ACL tear, which prompted the management to look for a potential new piece in the first place.

According to TuttoSport, Milan are strongly considering handing Kalulu a new contract in the summer. The talks in such direction have already started. There is major optimism the parties will eventually come to terms. His salary will likely double from €500k to €1M per year. The end date will move from 2025 to 2026.

The youngster will be an important part of the defense for years to come. The Rossoneri will probably lose Alessio Romagnoli at the end of his expiring contract. However, they do not plan to make more than one purchase in the role, ideally Botman, as they believe in the 21-year-old. Kalulu originally joined Milan from Olympique Lyonnais for just over €1M in 2020.
