Serie A Sides to Miss Out on Two Free Agent Targets

Matthias Ginter and Adnan Januzaj were on the radar of Serie A sides as possible Bosman additions. However, neither has strong chances to move to the Peninsula for opposite reasons. The defender will leave Borussia Moenchengladbach but go elsewhere, while the Belgian attacker could re-up with Real Sociedad.

According to Sport1, the center-back is poised to join Freiburg, where he began his career. He originally left it to move to Borussia Dortmund in 2014. Afterward, he transferred to his current club in a €17M move in 2017. Inter were in on him early in the race. Juventus, Milan and Roma expressed interest.

The Old Lady also pursued him in the past while current Nerazzurri CEO Giuseppe Marotta, who is a fan of the player, was in Turin. Inter opened talks, but they quickly moved on from him because his demands on wages were too high. He was reportedly asking for €7M at the time. It is unclear whether he has lowered them since. The other Italian heavyweights simply touched base.

On top of Ginter, the Serie A clubs are likely to miss out on Januzaj as well. Napoli tracked him as a possible Lorenzo Insigne heir. However, they eventually picked Khvicha Kvaratskhelia over him. Instead, Milan have loftier transfer market plans for their wings, especially thanks to the looming Investcorp takeover.

According to Mundo Deportivo, Real Sociedad offered the forward a three-year contract, with an optional fourth season, with €3M wages. The Spanish club expects a positive answer since no Champions League team is after him.
