Milan Begin Thinking About Extending Pioli Contract

New Milan owner Gerry Cardinale will soon return to Italy to handle some contract renewals, and coach Stefano Pioli is among those in line to get one. The boss has mostly worked under seasonal deals since the Rossoneri hired him, La Gazzetta dello Sport informs.

The boss received the Nereo Rocco award in Coverciano and was quizzed about the topic by Sky.

“I feel at home at Milan. When that’s the case, you don’t take into consideration anything else. We still have a lot more to do. I am least worried about my future.”

Instead, Pioli focused on the upcoming Milan matches.

“We’re doing well but the hardships of Serie A are evident. It is very even and many strong teams will fight until the end. We have to stay close to the potential winners. I understand the expectations since we will face Chelsea and Juventus soon, but the most difficult match will be the one versus Empoli. Some players will come back only two days before it.”

“Our goal is to be part of the leading group come January. I am managing a fantastic group and we have to be consistent to compete. Champions League demand great quality and pace. The two clashes with the Blues will be challenging, but we can hold our own if we play to the best of our capabilities.”

Our Take on Pioli and Milan

Considering how he turned the club around in a relatively short time, he’s arguably the most underpaid and underappreciated coach in the Peninsula. But some crummy situations elsewhere and the fluidity of today’s football suggest it’s better to avoid long and rich contracts for gaffers, even though they seem slam-dunks on paper.
