Return Date Set for Injured Milan Goalkeeper Maignan

Mike Maignan took some tests to assess his recovery from consecutive calf strains, which showed that the muscle was improving. He’ll keep rehabbing for a while and attempt to ramp up toward his return on the pitch. Milan hope he’ll be available for February 14th’s clash with Tottenham in the Champion League, SportMediaset reports.

The Frenchman hasn’t played since September 18th. He suffered the initial injury while spending time with the national team. He sustained a similar problem, although reportedly on a different muscle, in mid-October. The medical staff has been extremely cautious following the relapse.

Tatarusanu has been filling in for Maignan in the last few months. At one point, he seemed poised to be replaced by a new option. The Rossoneri did sign a new goalkeeper, Devis Vasquez, but not to usurp him. Unless he falls off, he’ll continue to man the sticks until the starter returns.

Even though the veteran hasn’t had major blunders, Milan have struggled defensively, especially lately. They have given up 20 goals, significantly more than Juventus, Napoli, Lazio, and Roma. Instead, they were by far the stingiest rearguard during their title-winning campaign.

Our Take on Maignan

Finally some good news for Milan amid a slew of uppercuts. He’s still out for a few fixtures, but at least he has a timetable, while the previous reports and remarks about his status were bleak. They need leaders to get out of their slump, and he’s one of their most charismatic and impactful ones.
