Alberto Bigon, manager of the Scudetto winning Napoli side in 1989/90, has backed his former outfit to go all the way until the end of the season to lift the coveted league championship
The former trequartista was a decorated player with Milan in the 1970’s, winning one Serie A and European Cup Winners’ Cup title each along with three Coppa Italia in the Rossoneri colors, but it was with Napoli that he got his managerial career running.
Speaking to La Repubblica, Bigon spoke of Luciano Spalletti’s side heading the Serie A table with a 13-point lead.
“This is overwhelming. After 33 years, the city deserves to experience the joy of the Scudetto again. The passion here is unique. This summer’s politics were fundamental: the club sold many big names, lowered the wage bill and took on young players with a hunger to win.” (via TuttoNapoli)
Bigon then likened Napoli’s golden touch to the fable of Midas.
“Every player is capable of making a difference. Napoli is like the King Midas, turn every ball’s touch into gold.”
Bigon managed 93 games for Napoli over the course of two years, winning 45, drawing 30 and losing just 18 of his clashes as the Partenopei manager.
