Adrien Rabiot has gone from expensive outcast to one of the top Juventus performers in the span of 18 months. The brass is plotting a strong offer to re-up his expiring contract. While his departure on a free has often been considered a fait accompli, the Bianconeri still have some chances.
Per La Gazzetta dello Sport, the midfielder, who can technically already sign a pre-contract with another team, has yet to receive offers that meet his requests. He wants €10M per year. The Old Lady can at most get to €8M, Paul Pogba’s salary, but are flexible on the add-ons. On the other hand, the signing bonus other sides could give his mother and agent would be tough to match.
Juventus are in touch with Veronique Rabiot, and they believe the Frenchman won’t decide until the end of the season. The 28-year-old wants to play in the Champions League, and with all their legal troubles and appeals, the Bianconeri might not know whether they will until deep into the summer.
The front office is willing to make a financial effort because they’d have to spend €40/50M to find somebody that could properly replace the 28-year-old.
Our Take on Juventus and Rabiot
It looks like the Bianconeri will have a shot until late in the game, but the uncertainty stemming from the trials is a dark cloud. It’d be justifiable to give him the bag after a marvelous season, but they should be wary, considering his previous lackluster showings. This might turn out to be a contract year for the ages. Somebody like Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, who’s been brilliant for longer time, would be a more surefire investment.
