Luciano Spalletti Backs Osimhen to Revive Napoli UCL Hopes

Napoli will welcome Milan for the second time this month, with the match on Tuesday arguably their biggest test of the season, as they look to overcome a 1-0 deficit at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona. Luciano Spalletti’s side will maintain hopes of a comeback, given the return of striker Victor Osimhen into the starting XI following his cameo against Hellas Verona.

Speaking to Radio Kiss Kiss (via Calciomercato), coach Luciano Spalletti shed light upon the Osimhen’s return to the first team.

“Osimhen gave that burst of enthusiasm that our fans rightly attribute to him by now and immediately showed to be in the match. He needed these 25 minutes of break-in to be ready to play on Tuesday. A sophisticated job has been done correctly.”

He then spoke of how important the support of Napoli fans is to the team.

“That’s a fundamental thing for us. When I saw that there was a rapprochement I was very happy, it was thanks to De Laurentiis. I say that depriving our players of the affection and love of the fans, who among other things, they struggle to keep hidden, it was unfair. Now that we are all inside this desire to love Napoli, everything becomes easier for us.”

Ismael Bennacer’s first-half strike at San Siro was enough to hand the Rossoneri a narrow lead, but keeping the Partenopei at bay is going to be nothing less than a challenge. Milan will however take inspiration from their 4-0 thrashing of Napoli early in April.
