Rabiot Reveals Reason Behind Juventus Contract Extension

Adrien Rabiot recently penned an extension deal at the Allianz Stadium despite being shortlisted by several European clubs over a summer transfer. He has now revealed why he took the decision of renewing his stay with the Bianconeri.

Rabiot spoke to L’Equipe (via Calciomercato) in an exclusive and revealed his intention to gain playing time ahead of the prestigious European Championship next year.

“What if I stayed another year in Italy to prepare well for Euro 2024? Yes, this was an important part of my decision, it’s complicated to adapt to a new club. With Juve we won’t have the cups but I take it as an opportunity to work harder, which you can’t do when you play every three days.”

Rabiot has improved leaps and bounds as one of the best central midfielders in the game since moving to Juventus.

“Sometimes I have the impression of knowing how the players will move. At times, I find myself in the right place at the right time, because I anticipated it. I owe it to the work done in Italy. I understand Michel Platini when he said that at Juve he closed his eyes and could tell where the other 21 players were. Just knowing where your teammates are is a good thing.”

The Frenchman is one of the few big players without a technical sponsor, a decision he is quite content with.

“I chose to be free. We know that with contracts there are constraints, quite a lot of things to do, shooting left and right. I don’t feel like it. Our rest time between matches and training sessions are often very short and I prefer to take advantage of them to recover rather than go shooting in Ibiza or I don’t know where… I earn enough, I don’t need this money.”

The Paris Saint-Germain youth product has 18 goals in 180 appearances for Juventus since arriving in 2019.
