Roma and Napoli Start Tracking Speedy Genoa Playmaker

Albert Gudmundsson has yet to contribute to a goal following the promotion, but his performances have been remarkable nonetheless. He has completed the most take-ons, 13 in 21 attempts, out of anybody in the League, including Rafael Leao and Khvicha Kvaratshkelia, Calciomercato informs.

The Icelandic attacker is proving he belongs in Serie A and is starting to draw the attention of major clubs. Napoli and Roma have shortlisted him for the next windows.

Gudmundsson will try to carry Genoa in their bid to avoid relegation in the same way he contributed to their return to the top flight. He has a strong bond with the city and coach Alberto Gilardino especially. Despite the incoming offers, it’s unlikely he’ll leave in January.

On the other hand, the situation will be different next June. Since he’s 26, his price tag figures to be affordable. An €8/10M bid could be enough to convince the Grifone to sell. He extended his contract last year and is tied to the Rossoblù until 2026.

Our Take on Gudmundsson

The Genoa offense as a whole isn’t great because of their increasingly conservative approach. They’ll be in dire straits without his sprints and brilliant passing. His versatility is a big asset as he can star indifferently on either flank or centrally too. While not having a ton of upside might keep the elite sides away, the clubs a notch below that would be wise to target him.
