Juventus in Advanced Talks to Renew Defender Contract

Daniele Rugani resurfaced in the Lecce game, logging his first appearance of the season. Massimiliano Allegri decided to give Federico Gatti a day off following his gaffe against Sassuolo. The veteran defender turned in a good shift as the Bianconeri held the spry opponents scoreless.

Per Alfredo Pedullà, the negotiation to extend his contract is progressing quickly. The center-back might conclude his career in Turin given the length of his new deal.

Juventus and the Rugani camp are negotiating a pact that would last until 2026 with an option. His current €3M wages would decrease slightly to €2.2/2.3M to help their finances. His current contract expires at the end of the season. However, the Bianconeri have decided not to move on from him.

Coach Massimiliano Allegri praised the stalwart to Sky after the last fixture.

“He played like somebody that has been at Juventus for eight years. He endured boos and whistles even when he was faring well. Nothing bothers him at this point. He went on the pitch with tranquility. He has a different presence on the pitch.”

Our Take on Rugani and Juventus

Backups are necessary, and he has been okay when called upon in the past two seasons. The only problem with him is that he’s overpaid relative to his role. The renewal will address and remedy that a little.
