Atalanta Chief Disputes Claim of Juventus-Linked Star

Teun Koopmeiners recently stated that he’d like to leave Atalanta next summer, but his club isn’t necessarily on the same page. CEO Luca Percassi commented on the saga to L’Eco di Bergamo.

“Our team is solid and doesn’t need to sell. He hasn’t already been vended to Juventus or any other side. He hasn’t even asked us to transfer. We refused a very important offer for him last summer and then extended his contract. Therefore, we’re serene. In any case, we won’t be conditioned by the pressures coming from our players. We’ll evaluate at the end of the season if and who to part ways with.”

The exec dismissed the transfer market chatter also because Atalanta are fighting for multiple objectives.

“What we achieved is already very important, but our biggest gratification is the passion and satisfaction of our people after we obtain important victories like the one against Sporting CP. I don’t pick and choose between goals. We aim at arriving to the finish line without any regrets.”

“We’re proud of our previous iteration where Alejandro Gomez, Josip Ilicic, and other great players were the protagonists, but we revamped the squad and maintained a similar level of competitiveness. We didn’t lose quality.”

Atalanta will face Liverpool in the Europa League.

“We were unlucky, but bringing them to Bergamo is something incredible. Serie A and Premier League are the most challenging championships because you can win or lose against anybody.”
