Napoli Set to Announce First Summer Signing on Monday

Antonio Conte’s revolution at Napoli begins to pick up a head of steam, with the Partenopei set to complete their first summer signing at the start of next week. According to Fabrizio Romano, Real Madrid center-back Rafa Marin will land in Rome on Monday to undergo medicals before inking a multi-year contract at the Diego Maradona Stadium.

Marin’s switch to Napoli has always been a matter of time. The Italians agreed on a transfer fee with Real Madrid weeks ago but had to define the final details before sealing the agreement. Romano broke down the terms in his latest report.

Napoli will pour around €12 million into the coffers of Real Madrid to sign the 22-year-old. However, the reigning Champions League holders will have a buyback clause. They can take Marin back to La Liga for €25m in 2026 or €35m a year later.

But Napoli could pump the value of the buy-back clause if they pay Carlo Ancelotti’s side an additional €10m in 2025. It would require Los Blancos to fork out €50m in 2026 instead of €25m and €70m in 2027.

Marin’s arrival could be the first of many. Conte is determined to overhaul his underachieving squad in the coming weeks. In addition to the Spanish defender, they’re working around the clock to sign Torino star Alessandro Buongiorno.

However, despite striking a deal with Torino in a blitz, Napoli could still end up empty-handed. The Italian isn’t sure whether he wants to join Conte’s team after Inter made a last-gasp approach to hijack his long-awaited move to Naples.
