Napoli Midfielder Suddenly Made Available on the Market

Michael Folorunsho extended his contract with Napoli until 2029 earlier in the summer, but that doesn’t necessarily mean he’ll stay put. Atalanta opened talks to sign him before pivoting toward a center-forward to replace Gianluca Scamacca.

According to Alfredo Pedullà, Fiorentina are searching for midfielders and inquired. Lazio also need an extra man. Their coach Marco Baroni knows him well as he helped him thrive at Hellas Verona and Reggina. The Biancocelesti plot to end their summer with an addition in such a role and a winger. Sassuolo’s Armand Laurienté is still the top option on their list.

Napoli have set a €12M valuation plus add-ons for Folorunsho. They have lined up Marco Brescianini and Billy Gilmour to replenish the position, although the arrival of the latter isn’t a done deal yet. They’ll wait for some exits to finalize their chases.

Gianluca Gaetano seemed poised to move to Parma, Sky informs (via Fantacalcio). However, the Azzurri ended up turning down an €8M offer because their valuation was higher. His agent Mario Giuffredi told Tuttomercatoweb that they either wanted to go back to Cagliari or stay put.

Our Take on Napoli and Folorunsho

He may still continue being part of the squad if no team matches the request, but it’s an odd decision after renewing his contract. He has the grit, pace, and stamina to blossom under Antonio Conte. On the other hand, he has fared better as a no.10 in Verona, a role the Azzurri won’t have. He could eventually become a box-to-box, but they won’t use those either in their 3-4-2-1. He’s a little too wild to serve as a holding midfielder. The decision is probably strictly tactical.
