Lazio Agree Loan Fee to Onboard Salernitana Talisman

After days of negotiations between Lazio and Boulaye Dia, the highly-rated Salernitana center-forward is on the cusp of linking up with Marco Baroni’s squad. According to Calciomercato, Lazio’s persistence in talks with Dia’s representatives has come to fruition, with the parties finding a crucial breakthrough on Wednesday.

Dia will arrive in the capital later today for medical before joining Lazio on a season-long loan. Baroni’s side will have an option to buy the Senegalese goal-getter permanently next summer if the 27-year-old meets the expectations at the Stadio Olimpico.

Lazio and Salernitana agreed on a loan fee days ago. However, it took the Biancocelesti a few days to convince Dia to accept the contract terms. As the player gave his go-ahead yesterday, the deal is now a mere formality. Dia will leave Salerno after two years to fill Ciro Immobile’s shoes at Lazio.

Claudio Lotito has been in the market for a new striker ever since sanctioning Immobile’s transfer to Besiktas back in July. Barcelona misfit Vitor Roque had been the club’s initial thought, but Lazio couldn’t meet the Spaniards’ lofty demands for the Brazilian prodigy. Therefore, they’ve turned to Dia.

Salernitana’s relegation to Serie B meant they couldn’t keep hold of their standout performer anymore. Lazio have seized the opportunity to snap up the former Villarreal ace, who experienced an injury-riddled 2023/24 season, netting just four goals in 17 Serie A appearances.

However, Dia has returned to form at the start of 2024/25. He bagged a match-winning brace in this week’s Coppa Italia clash against Spezia, suggesting he could be a massive coup for Lazio.
