Milan to Finalize Crucial Midfield Signing by the End of This Week

Youssouf Fofana’s epic transfer saga is nearing a close, with the wantaway Monaco star edging closer to joining Milan. According to Fabrizio Romano, the agreement between the clubs is ‘very close’ after the Rossoneri ‘improved the structure of their bid’ to get the French outfit to sanction a deal.

Romano’s update came soon after Monaco relaxed their stance on the 25-year-old midfielder. Fofana made his decision to continue his career at Milan abundantly clear almost a month ago. He agreed on personal terms with the 19-time Serie A champions in July. He has since pressured the Ligue 1 side to sanction a move.

Fofana’s determination is about to pay off. After fending off several foreign approaches to honor his word to Milan, the Frenchman is close to completing his long-awaited switch to the Stadio San Siro. Only the final details are missing, with the transfer expected to go through by the end of this week.

Milan boss Paulo Fonseca has requested Fofana’s arrival, identifying the former Strasbourg man as the final piece of his midfield jigsaw. Known for his impressive physical attributes and pinpoint passing, Fofana would significantly upgrade Milan’s midfield ranks.

With Fofana coming in, Milan will likely try to cash in on Yacine Adli. The ex-Bordeaux playmaker started against Monza in Tuesday’s Trofeo Berlusconi showpiece. But he’s not part of Fonseca’s plans for next season. Ismael Bennacer and Tijjani Reijnders are ahead of him in the pecking order.
