Juventus Player Ratings vs Como: Young Bianconeri Off to Flying Start

Thiago Motta made his bow at the Allianz Stadium as Juventus hosted Como at the Allianz Stadium in the closing curtain of Serie A Round 1. The new manager fielded a particularly young lineup, but Samuel Mbangula swiftly justified his presence by breaking the deadlock on his senior debut. Timothy Weah also grabbed his first Serie A goal just before half-time, while Andrea Cambiaso rounded off a brilliant display with a clever late strike. So here are our player ratings for Juventus who kickstarted a new era with a 3-0 victory over Cesc Fabregas’ Como.

Juventus (4-2-3-1)

Michele Di Gregorio – 6

The former Monza goalkeeper was almost a bystander on his Juventus debut as he didn’t have a save to make. But seemed alert whenever required to intervene.

Andrea Cambiaso – 7.5

A brilliant display from the versatile Italian who started his night at right-back before being advanced to right-winger following Weah’s injury. Produced the assist for Mbangula’s opener with a decent ball across the field, and finished off his outing with a clinical finish that left Pepe Reina stranded.

Gleison Bremer – 6.5

A relatively quiet night for the no-nonsense Brazilian who comfortably dealt with his old Torino captain Andrea Belotti.

Federico Gatti – 6.5

The captain on the night was cool and composed as you like while being untroubled at the back.

Juan Cabal – 6.5

An encouraging debut from the left-back who darted forward on countless occasions and provided the assist for Vlahovic’s disallowed goal. However, he must improve his distribution from the back, as he could have been punished for giving the ball away on a few occasions.

Khephren Thuram – 7

The Frenchman inspired confidence with a maturity beyond his 23 years. Kept the ball ticking in midfield and was happy to do the dirty work when required. Left the pitch with a round of applause while his legendary father Lillian was proudly watching from the stands.

Manuel Locatelli – 6

A decent display from the Euro 2020 winner who played an integral role in the opener. However, he risked a second yellow for a needless challenge which prompted his exit.

Timothy Weah – 7

Despite sporting an injury, the American winger still gritted his teeth to smash in the second Juventus goal of the night with his weak left foot. He eventually left his place on the pitch for Savona after the interval, but he’ll remember this night fondly as it yielded his maiden Serie A goal.

Kenan Yildiz – 7

The Juventus Number 10 flashed his new jersey with a fine display marked by an assist for Weah. He was at the center of the action while playing as an attacking midfielder, showcasing his spark and magical skills.

Samuel Mbangula – 8

While many Bianconeri fans were left bemused when they saw the 20-year-old’s name on the starting sheet, he certainly won them over with his memorable debut. The young winger started the night with a fabulous strike and then fed Cambiaso with a sublime assist.

Dusan Vlahovic – 6

The Serbian must have felt cursed after failing to put his name on the scoresheet despite coming so close several times. He was denied by the post on two occasions while the most marginal of offside calls ruled out his goal. Nevertheless, he kept his head in the game and remained in a positive mood.

Substitutes

Nicolò Savona – 6

The young right-back looked calm and composed on his senior debut.

Nicolò Fagioli – 6

A positive cameo from the Juventus youth product who made a good claim for a starting spot despite the growing competition in midfield.

Douglas Luiz – N/A
