Milan Confirm Stance on Leao, Expect Improvements

Milan had already let it be known informally that Rafael Leao wasn’t going anywhere this summer. CEO Giorgio Furlani doubled down on that in a slightly heated exchange with Spanish TV show El Chiringuito. He was asked whether the star could join Barcelona (via DAZN).

“No. Zero possibility. He will stay for sure, 100 percent.”

According to Tuttomercatoweb, Milan haven’t received sizeable bids for Rafael Leao. Jorge Mendes has extensively looked for them but came up empty-handed. Eventually, the Rossoneri would have sold him only early in the summer, preferably through the activation of his €175M release clause, or a nine-digit offer. They haven’t particularly appreciated his agent getting busy.

The Blaugrana have significantly better chances of landing Federico Chiesa. His valuation is significantly lower, and he’s very much available.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, coach Paulo Fonseca wants the Portuguese star to be more consistent and impactful and operate closer to the goal. In his mind, it’s unacceptable that he didn’t reach the double-digit threshold in scoring last year. He could see some minutes as a false-nine while Alvaro Morata recovers, but Noah Okafor and Luka Jovic will take on those duties at first.

Our Take on Milan, Leao, and Barcelona

The Rossoneri will stay true to their word and not make any major sales, as they stated back in June. They would have had a more glamorous summer if they did, but it has still been fine. A constantly locked-in and highly effective version of him has been their objective for years, but the results have been mixed.
