McTominay on the Verge of Finalizing Napoli Switch

The deal needed an extra day to be completed in all its elements, but Napoli are indeed signing Scott McTominay from Manchester United. The midfielder arrived in Italy on Thursday and will be announced as a new addition on Friday.

According to Il Mattino, the Partenopei paid €30M for the Scotsman. He’ll earn €3M for the next four years. The Serie A team will have an option to extend his contract for one more season.

McTominay quickly accepted the move when Napoli and Antonio Conte came calling. However, the negotiation took a while. The Reds Devils needed to snap up Manuel Ugarte first. The Azzurri were determined to onboard one more starting-caliber midfielder to their rotation.

The 27-year-old has spent his entire career at Old Trafford and has been a regular for the past five seasons. He has racked up 255 appearances, scoring 29 goals and providing 8. He has 52 caps with Scotland.

The Azzurri’s plans to sign Billy Gilmour have been thwarted by his replacement Matt O’Riley suffering a major injury right away. They are now targeting Arthur, who would join on a simple loan from Juventus, Sky informs. They’d cover most if not all of his wages. As for their outcasts, Gianluca Gaetano remains close to Cagliari, while Fiorentina and Lazio are dueling for Micheal Folorunsho.

Our Take on Napoli and McTominay

They had to pay a pretty penny for somebody who projects to be a backup when everybody else is available and in shape. Still, he’ll surely help them out as they had non-existent depth at the position, and Franck Anguissa sometimes has some lulls. Plus, a sturdier midfield when they want to be more defensive-minded will become an option now.
