Napoli Reportedly Closing In on Kvaratskhelia Extension

After finding a somewhat decent solution to the thorny Victor Osimhen case, Napoli can shift their focus to another pending matter: the renewal of Khvicha Kvaratskhelia. The Georgian ace, who still hasn’t modified his contract since joining, was strongly pursued by PSG in the early going. Antonio Conte insisted on taking him off the market, and the ensuing weeks were relatively serene.

According to Il Mattino, the parties are close to an agreement. If all goes to plan, his wages will grow from €1.5M to €5M including add-ons. The new deal might not envisage a release clause as initially believed.

Kvaratskhelia is fine at Napoli and isn’t expected to drive a hard bargain on his salary. He’s been at ease in a slightly new role under the new gaffer. He no longer stars as a pure winger but operates more centrally in a 3-4-2-1.

The attacker and the boss clicked right away. Conte traveled to Germany amid the PSG courtship and reeled him in. He would have made ten-fold his current salary in France, but the manager won him over, and his side never truly negotiated his sale. The Ligue 1 champions were willing to offer €220M for him and Osimhen combined.

Our Take on Napoli and Kvaratskhelia

It’s long overdue, and they have been handing big wages left and right this summer, so that shouldn’t be a sticking point; plus, they wiped the highest one off their books, at least for this season. After what happened with Osimhen, they should steer clear of release clauses and let the market dictate price tags.
