Juventus Set Benchmark for Thorny Vlahovic Extension

Juventus have about a year to sort out the tricky Dusan Vlahovic situation, as he’s under contract with them until 2026, but his wages are too large in the team’s mind. He inked a peculiar deal back in the day, with some pre-determined pay bumps and diluting a massive signing bonus throughout its duration. He’ll make €10.5M net this year and €12M in the next and final one, Corriere dello Sport informs (via Tribuna).

He is and will be the highest-paid player in Serie A following Victor Osimhen’s departure, even though last year’s top scorer, Lautaro Martinez, re-upped with Inter not too long ago. The Bianconeri plot to decrease the Serb’s yearly wages to the same level as the Nerazzurri star, about €9M.

Achieving such an objective is easier said than done, though The Juventus higher-ups will try to convince Vlahovic and his agent Darko Ristic. Cristiano Giuntoli already had three meetings with the representative in Turin to tackle the matter. A fourth one will take place at the end of September, but it won’t be decisive yet.

The Old Lady aims to extend the contract of the striker until 2028. They’d save €6M per season if they got their wish and lowered his financial impact as much as they hoped.

Our Take on Juventus and Vlahovic

Considering the performances and durability of the two strikers, he’d arguably should make less than the Inter star, but that’s neither here nor there. The Bianconeri were in a different era and surely had loftier expectations when they signed him. It won’t be easy to get out of this situation, but their new playing style offers some hope. A summer departure will be inevitable without an agreement.
