Milan Lodged Late Attempt to Sign Osimhen from Napoli

Victor Osimhen joined Galatasaray a few days after the end of the window in Italy and the top five leagues, but another team had tried to get him earlier: Milan. The Rossoneri, which filled the void with Tammy Abraham from Roma, had inquired with Napoli, Sky informs.

In particular, Zlatan Ibrahimovic moved personally to assess the viability of the deal. It evidently didn’t come together. The Swedish icon preferred not to answer directly on the topic when quizzed about it before the clash with Liverpool. However, had an alluding smirk.

“I’d rather stay silent on that. We did exactly what we wanted. We addressed what we were missing and looking for. The last piece was Abraham to have an extra striker. I’m sorry for Luka Jovic, who didn’t make the UEFA list.”

The former Napoli star eventually transferred to Galatasaray on loan with no option to buy. The Azzurri won’t contribute to his massive wages this season. Plus, he obtained to lower his future release clause to €75/80M in exchange for a team option to extend his contract if he doesn’t leave permanently next summer either.

Our Take on Milan and Osimhen

Can’t fault anybody for trying to land a player of this caliber, but, the attempt was most likely short-lived and didn’t have legs. Considering how they operate on salaries, they probably asked for Napoli to cover a significant part of it, which was a non-starter, besides the reluctance to do a favor and send a star to a direct rival with favorable terms.
