Iconic Milan manager Arrigo Sacchi has delivered his verdict on Sunday’s highly expected Serie A derby between Inter and Milan. Gazzetta dello Sport published the column of the decorated veteran on the eve of the first Derby della Madonnina of the 2024/25 season.
Out-of-sorts Milan are staring down the barrel of another derby humiliation amid a dreadful start under new manager Paulo Fonseca. After just one win in the opening four league matches, the Rossoneri slumped to a 3-1 Champions League loss to Liverpool on Tuesday.
By contrast, Inter built on their four-game unbeaten Serie A start with a hard-earned 0-0 draw against Manchester City on Wednesday. A point against Pep Guardiola’s high-flying team was the testimony of Inter’s confidence and quality, spelling further trouble for Milan.
“The feelings with which Inter and Milan approach the derby could not be more different. On one side, a team and an environment in full euphoria, after the beautiful draw achieved in Manchester against Guardiola’s City,” Sacchi wrote.
“On the other, there are the Rossoneri who are going through a very delicate period, and the clear defeat at San Siro, in the Champions League, against Liverpool is the clearest testimony of this.
“I saw Milan against Liverpool and it was painful. The Rossoneri, at the moment, lack everything, and finding it again in a few days is not easy. In the league they have won only one match, against Venezia: too little for a club that wants to become a leader in world football.”
