Inter Lose Star Midfielder Barella for a Few Games

Things aren’t getting better physically speaking for Inter, as they have been hit by another minor muscular injury. They announced that Nicolò Barella suffered a distraction of the rectus femoris in his right thigh.

He’ll be re-assessed next week, but there’s not much hope for a quick recovery. Per Mediaset and multiple sources, he’ll be sidelined for the next three games and return after the break. It’ll be the second time he won’t be able to star for Italy. He missed the previous Nations League games due to a nasal procedure.

Barella will sit out the fixture versus Udinese, Red Star Belgrade in the Champions League, and the current Serie A leaders Torino. The stoppage will contain the damage. He should be back versus Roma at the Olimpico in about a month.

Inter have been more banged up than usual so far. Federico Dimarco, Lautaro Martinez, Hakan Calhanoglu, Stefan De Vrij, Medhi Taremi, and Piotr Zielinski have all dealt with similar problems in the early going.

Barella didn’t go out on international duties in the previous break but was still managed versus Monza ahead of the clash with Manchester City. He missed just one game due to injury last season, so he’ll already exceed that this year. Davide Frattesi and Piotr Zielinski will pick up the slack in the midfield in relief. The former has been exceptional as a super sub during his time at San Siro but hasn’t always delivered as a starter.
