Roma Handed Crucial Injury Boost Ahead of Venezia Clash

Roma suffered a massive injury scare during Thursday’s 1-1 Europa League draw against Athletic Bilbao, as Paulo Dybala had to come off at halftime. However, according to Calciomercato, further scans have found no damage, bolstering the club’s hopes of having the Argentine superstar fit for the upcoming Serie A clash against Venezia.
New Roma boss Ivan Juric left the 30-year-old forward in the dressing room at the break as a precaution after the player felt stiffness in his flexor muscle during the first half. Dybala’s withdrawal coincided with Roma’s significant drop-off in the second half, resulting in Bilbao leaving the Stadio Olimpico with a point.
Dybala has become a fan favorite in the capital since arriving from Juventus on a free transfer in 2022. He has earned fans’ trust and admiration for his sublime on-field showings, yet his proneness to injuries has often hindered his progress at Roma. Therefore, whenever Dybala feels uncomfortable, the alarm bells ring at the Olimpico.
Luckily for Juric, his talismanic forward will likely be ready for Venezia’s visit to Rome on Sunday. Roma desperately need a win against the Serie A newcomers after finally getting off the mark in last weekend’s 3-0 thrashing of Udinese on home turf.
Dybala converted a penalty in that match to open his account for the 2024/24 season. A lack of match fitness has seen the headline Roma performer make just three league starts this season. But he could add to the tally this weekend unless his minor fitness issue becomes complicated in the next 24 hours.
