Spalletti Ready to Welcome Two Talents in Azzurri Squad

Luciano Spalletti spent the weekend in Naples, receiving a tribute while attending the Monza game, and anticipated some fresh blood in the upcoming call-ups. He spoke with Mediaset and other outlets after a pair of charity events.

“There are some truly quality youngsters that are growing and prove that Italy can have an important future. Daniele Maldini and Niccolò Pisilli made the provisional squad list, which we already sent out. We’re obviously pleased that there are new faces that can contribute to fixing things after an underwhelming European Champions.”

Spalletti singled out also Nicolò Fagioli and Samuele Ricci, who will be featured prominently in the new course.

“We have to search for that kind of players. They are strong and well-built and have already shown what they are capable of.”

The Azzurri coach touched on Federico Chiesa and Matteo Politano. Both have had sound starts.

“We decided to make the roster a little younger, but they aren’t that old, so we’ll continue to consider them. However, we want to have tactical consistency, and our scheme doesn’t have wingers. Our goal is to have well-rounded players that can handle and help out in other positions. Midfielders are the best example of that.”

Spalletti will insist on 3-5-2 going forward.

“We’ll continue to use two strikers, building the action from behind with five players that cover the width of the pitch. We’ve seen new and interesting things with this design.”

Italy will face Belgium and Israel in the Nations League in mid-October.
