Mehdi Taremi painted his second Champions League start for Inter with flying colors, delivering an impressive showing against Red Star. The Iran international inspired Simone Inzaghi’s troops to a scintillating 4-0 triumph at Giuseppe Meazza with a brilliant individual performance.
Taremi partnered up with Marko Arnautovic in Inzaghi’s new-look frontline. The backup strikers replaced Lautaro Martinez and Marcus Thura in the starting XI and excelled. The former’s display was particularly outstanding.
While he’s yet to score in Serie A, the new Inter center-forward stole the show in Europe. He forced two high turnovers to set up Martinez and Arnautovic for the goals before converting a late penalty.
It was a morale-boosting outing for the 32-year-old as he looks to gain a more prominent role in the Inter set-up. After the game, he couldn’t hide his enthusiasm after finding a well-deserved breakthrough.
“I am glad to score tonight, to play good, thanks to my teammates. It was great,” Taremi said in his post-game interview. “I am so excited, it took a while for me to score, but I always tried to do my best in training, I fought for this moment and managed to get the goal tonight.“
After helping Inter post their first Champions League win this season following a 0-0 draw at Manchester City, Taremi outlined the club’s lofty European ambitions.
“Our goal as a big club is to reach the Final, as Inter must try to win every game. We will take it step by step.”
