Inter loanee Martin Satriano has succumbed to a horror injury and could miss the rest of the season after tearing his anterior cruciate ligament. Currently on loan at Lens, the 23-year-old suffered a season-ending injury during a scoreless draw against OGC Nice last weekend.
Satriano spent last season on loan at Brest. Despite Les Pirates’ bid to lure him back to the club in the summer, the Uruguayan center-forward rebuffed the reunion. Instead, he joined Lens on loan with an obligation to buy in late August.
Lens brought the former Inter ace as an emergency signing after Eliye Wahi left for Olympique Marseille. However, Satriano has quickly found himself behind Fiorentina loanee M’Bala Nzola in the pecking order. Before picking up an injury, he had only been handed 37 minutes across four Ligue 1 appearances for Les Sang et Or.
Satriano’s misfortune at the Stade Bollaert-Delelis should not affect Inter. With no cancelation clause, Lens will have to splash out €5 million to sign him permanently at the end of the season if they avoid relegation. Since that’s a near-certainty, the Nerazzuri will make a decent profit from his departure.
Indeed, Inter paid Uruguayan side Nacional Montevideo €2.4m to take Satriano to Serie A in January 2020. However, his career at Giuseppe Meazza never took off, with the Montevideo native registering only four senior appearances for the reigning Scudetto holders.
On the other hand, another Inter loanee, Valentin Carobi, has received an unlikely international call-up from Argentina coach Lionel Scaloni. Like Satriano, Carboni has barely featured in Ligue 1 this season, collecting just 55 top-flight minutes at Marseille.
