Abraham Exit Mostly Motivated by Salary-Related Reasons

Tammy Abraham left Roma only late in the window and temporarily in a swap of loans with Milan with Alexis Saelemaekers, but the Giallorossi had planned for him to depart all summer long. The reason was primarily tied to his large wages, Tuttomercatoweb informed.

The capital club invested a lot in the summer but brought in players with relatively low salaries. Instead, the Englishman was making €4.5M annually plus €1.5M add-ons that were easy to activate. The blow was softened a little by the ‘Decreto Crescita,’ as the gross sum is €9M and not €12M as it would have been normally. He was the second-highest-paid on the squad behind Paulo Dybala and on par with a few veterans.

Abraham took a slight pay cut to facilitate his transfer from Roma to Milan. He’d like to stay with the Rossoneri, but the two teams will have to haggle again since there’s no pre-determined option to buy.

The 27-year-old has starred more frequently than expected thanks to a tweak by Paulo Fonseca. He moved Alvaro Morata to a no.10/second striker role, benching Ruben Loftus-Cheek and opening up a spot up front. He has started in four of the last five games. He has scored and assisted once so far.

Our Take on Abraham, Roma, and Milan

He seems to be one of those players who fare well only if he perceives the trust of the coach and the environment, and he clearly no longer had that with the Giallorossi. His very late ACL tear in 2023 probably delayed his exit by a year. While he’s been serviceable and energetic, it wouldn’t hurt if he improved his touch in the box.
