Gian Piero Gasperini threw his hat in the ring for the Scudetto following the dominant win over Napoli on Sunday. He spoke about the title race and more to Radio Rai (via SOSFanta).
“We never hide. We always tried to play our game and see how far we can get. There’s a bunch at the top, and each side can dream. I think that Inter have something more than the others. However, it is fair for us, Fiorentina, and Lazio to be happy right now. Atalanta change a lot every year, maybe losing some players. Winning the Europa League allowed us to make the leap: it gave us self-confidence and certainties. We need one more step, though.”
Gasperini has his take on the cups.
“They surely help us. Others say that they take a toll, and they seem a hindrance at times. Instead, they are exceptional to us. They can hurt you a little due to the frequency of games and injuries, but being able to play at high rhythms is extraordinary. It enriches us athletically and tactically. You can benefit from that if you carry it over to league play.”
Gasperini said his piece on Daniel Maldini.
“He’s doing well. Atalanta have to look around and hunt for that kind of players. He’s among those we can afford, and he can grow. The balance sheets are important to us. He’s akin to the type of footballer we usually consider.”
Gasperini commented on Ivan Juric.
“It’s an explosive and difficult situation and a tall order for him. The results can save him. He’s good and can bring them if he’s supported. He’s doing everything he can, but he’s on his own.”
