Milan have joined the race for Inter ace Marcelo Brozovic amid the contractual uncertainty surrounding the player, per Fichajes. According to the Spanish source, the Nerazzurri have put their first-team regular up for sale as they face financial turmoil. The Croatia international has been an indispensable first-team player under Antonio Conte this season, missing only 3 of Inter’s 29 Serie A fixtures.
Despite Brozovic’s tremendous influence within the dressing room, the Nerazzurri have yet to tie him down to a new deal. The 28-year-old has just over a year left on his current contract at the Giuseppe Meazza, with no signs of a breakthrough in extension talks on the horizon.
The news saying the former Dinamo Zagreb midfielder could be available in the summer has put Atletico Madrid, Sevilla, and Real Betis on red alert. However, Brozovic would prefer to stay in Italy, where he has built the name for himself, with Milan ready to fulfill that wish.
Soualiho Meite has endured a dismal half-season loan at the San Siro and his return to Torino at the end of 2020/21 is a near-certainty. Although Stefano Pioli has the likes of Franck Kessie, Ismael Bennacer, and Sandro Tonali, the Italian tactician is looking to add someone more experienced to his juvenile squad.
Having registered over 230 appearances for Inter and 57 for his country, Brozovic fits the profile. Often viewed as a combative, albeit technically gifted midfielder, the Croat has been orchestrating Inter’s play with his pinpoint passing accuracy and impeccable vision for the past few seasons.
Equally effective in more advanced positions as he is dropping deep to help in the build-up, Brozovic is a perfect modern-day midfielder.
Unless Inter convince the Zagreb-born star to pledge his long-term future to the club by the end of the season, Paolo Maldini could launch an assault to snatch the playmaker away from the arch-rivals in the summer.
