Inter defensive ace Francesco Acerbi has congratulated Sassuolo for doing something no other team has been successful in since Manchester City back in July. Inter had last tasted defeat in the UEFA Champions League final before the Neroverdi executed a two-goal comeback in the second half to inflict the Nerazzurri’s first loss of the campaign.
Speaking to Inter TV (via Tuttomercatoweb), the former Lazio defender reasoned out why Inter slipped at the Meazza.
“We’re playing a lot of games, and the tiredness is definitely making itself felt. When you concede two goals at the start of the second half there is something wrong: you can concede one, but you must do everything to avoid a second. We didn’t play anymore afterward: this makes you think about it a bit, but nothing can be said about the team’s commitment.”
Acerbi praised Alessio Dionisi’s men for their impressive display.
“Sassuolo is a team on the rise, they have quality players. We didn’t even risk that much, but they were better at managing the ball in the second half. We could have done better, but you can’t blame the boys.”
Despite the defeat, Inter sit atop the Serie A standings, on par with rivals Milan with 15 points. Acerbi and his troops prepare to face winless Salernitana next. Sassuolo jumped into the top half of the table with a second consecutive win over Scudetto favorites after beating Juventus last time out.
