There’s no longer a shred of doubt. Adrien Rabiot doesn’t see himself at Juventus anymore. According to multiple sources in Italy, the French star has turned down Bianconeri’s final contract offer and is ready to embark on a new chapter.
Calciomercato journalist Daniele Longo is adamant the official announcement of Rabiot’s departure will come later today. The midfielder’s deal ran out last month. However, Juventus had been stubborn in their quest to tie their ex-vice captain to a new contract.
But Juventus were reluctant to hand Rabiot more than €7m per season plus €1m in add-ons. The 29-year-old has deemed the club’s proposal insufficient as he seeks €9m per season wages. Despite his quality and experience, he’s unlikely to receive that figure from any other Serie A team.
Milan and Napoli are among the clubs most heavily linked with a swoop for Rabiot. After waving goodbye to Juventus, the former Paris Saint-Germain ace can choose his next destination as it pleases him. But he’s unlikely to stay in Italy, with Manchester United and Newcastle United hot on his heels.
The Red Devils were keen on luring Rabiot to Old Trafford last summer before the player penned a short-term extension late in June 2023. His career at Juventus looks over now, meaning Erik ten Hag would have a clear path to his long-standing target.
Rabiot’s exit will not derail Thiago Motta’s midfield options. Juventus have landed Douglas Luiz and Khephren Thuram, plus they’re working on a deal to bring Teun Koopmeiners to the Allianz Stadium.
