AFCON Winner Koulibaly Offered Contract Renewal Deal by Napoli

Kalidou Koulibaly has been offered a contract renewal deal by Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis. The 30-year-old Senegal captain, who just led his national side to their first ever major international trophy, is reportedly on the same page with the club.

According to Rai Sport, the Partenopei have offered the Senegalese a four-year deal amounting to €5m net per season, without any add-ons – as of now. With the departure of club legend Lorenzo Insigne, Koulibaly is also in line to become the next captain of the Naples outfit.

As an integral member of Luciano Spalletti’s side, the center-back is expected to stay in the south of Italy. However, nothing is set in concrete at the moment, given a trail of clubs keeping close tabs on the African champion.

Koulibaly’s current contract with Napoli expires in June 2023 and he possesses a transfermarkt value of €45m. Most recently, the French-born defender was the subject of interest from Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain – two teams where he would earn higher wages than the one offered by Napoli.

Nevertheless, the relationship between the Partenopei and Koulibaly is said to be better than ever and the club can count on his allegiance to the sky-blue colors.

Napoli are in line for their first Scudetto title in more than three decades as they sit sandwiched between the Milan giants at the top of league standings, with only one point separating them from leaders Inter.

Koulibaly is set to return to action against the Nerazzurri next weekend, having last appeared for Napoli against Sassuolo at the start of December. He has largely been sidelined due to a biceps femoris muscle injury, before being called up to the national team.
