Benjamin Pavard’s entourage, Max Bielefeld, has delivered his verdict on his client’s breakup with Bayern Munich ahead of his big-money move to Inter. Relentless talks finally paid off on August 30 as Nerazzurri captured the versatile defender in a deal worth around €32 million, including add-ons.
Inter and Bayern discussed Pavard’s switch to Giuseppe Meazza for almost three months. Despite the Germans’ resilience, they had to cave out in the transfer window finale, allowing the 27-year-old to fly to Lombardy to complete his long-awaited transfer to Serie A.
Pavard’s arrival should fill the void left by Milan Skirniar’s exit. The Frenchman could make his Inter debut on Sunday when Simone Inzaghi’s men entertain Fiorentina on home turf. But his signing has been a subject of controversy.
Several media outlets in Germany had spoken about Pavard’s debatable attempts to force Bayern to sanction his transfer to Inter. However, his agent has put such talks to bed, insisting there was no foul play from the defender’s side.
“He wanted to try something new after seven years, he is very happy. The Bavarians knew very well that he wanted to try something else,” Bielefeld said, as relayed by Calciomercato.
“He didn’t go on strike, he just had back problems. When Stanisic left, they already knew everything, both Salihamidzic and Tuchel.
“With the coach, by the way, we have a very good relationship. He didn’t want to be a right-back anymore.
“At Inter he can play either on the right or in the centre of defence. Leaving Germany after seven years was a professional and life decision.“
