Napoli captain Giovanni Di Lorenzo’s agent Mario Giuffredi has put to bed any rumors of the right-back leaving this summer, just weeks after the Partenopei released a statement regarding his stay. “Di Lorenzo is and will be the captain of Calcio Napoli for many years to come,” read the statement by the club.
The former Scudetto winners have no intention of parting ways with their captain, and Giuffredi revealed the nature of talks and clarified doubts regarding Di Lorenzo’s presence in an exclusive interview (via Calciomercato).
“Giovanni Di Lorenzo is in agreement with the club for about a week through a letter. He communicated his willingness to stay at Napoli and continue his life and professional career with the club. For my part, as the player’s agent, it seems right to me to clarify what has happened, on everything that has been said.”
Giuffredi also revealed how Antonio Conte played a decisive role in convincing Di Lorenzo to stay in Naples.
“I also pulled the rope a little with Conte, to understand if he wanted to keep Di Lorenzo with conviction. I talked a lot with him, I had two meetings, went to dinner and exchanged many messages. In the end, I came to the conclusion that this was a coach who wanted Di Lorenzo at all costs. Then I was able to reassure Giovanni.”
The agent disclosed how reports were blown out of proportion regarding Di Lorenzo’s exit links with Inter, Juventus and Atletico Madrid.
” I don’t call a club and propose Di Lorenzo. I never sat down with Juventus. Juve, like Inter and Atletico Madrid, told me that they would be happy to discuss. But there has never been any agreement. Neither with Juventus nor with other clubs did I sit down.”
