Agent of Inter Defender Reassures Fans About His Future

Inter met with the agent of Alessandro Bastoni shortly after the rumors about the difficulty of the negotiation to renew his contract started to circulate insistently. Tullio Tinti downplayed them before convening with the management (via Eurosport).

“These are the first summits on the matter. We are in touch, and there’ll be other occasions to discuss in the next few weeks. He has always been a fan of this team. We are in talks for an extension. The supporters shouldn’t be agitated. The media are spreading the chatter, not us. There’s interest in his services, but he wants to stay.”

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, despite the words of his representative, there weren’t significant steps toward a new contract. Inter want his pay bump to start from July 1st because of some UEFA parameters. As a result, Bastoni will have to wait to put pen to paper.

Per Sky, the desire to come to an agreement is mutual, but there’s a sizeable difference between the demand and the proposal. The defender would like to be paid on par with other key players in the squad, such as Lautaro Martinez and Marcelo Brozovic, so nearly €7M per year, including add-ons, doubling his current wages. The parties might be able to meet halfway down the line. It’ll take more conversations to do so, though.

Despite being relatively young, Bastoni has already accumulated 148 matches with Inter, scoring 3 goals and providing 13 assists. He wouldn’t lack suitors if he were made available. However, the parties are on good terms and will work to find a solution about his contract first.
