As widely reported, Napoli have insistently chased after Teun Koopmeiners but found no opening on Atalanta’s part. The situation won’t change even if the Partenopei could try again after the Gabri Veiga deal fell apart. His agent Bart Baving talked to SpazioNapoli.
“I was in Bergamo last week. They tabled a €45M offer, but La Dea replied that he’s not for sale this summer. They are building the team around him. He’s a key player to them and will stay put.”
Napoli didn’t get to the point of offering Koopmeiners a contract, as the Orobici rebuffed them.
“It didn’t happen because there were talks only between clubs. Atalanta’s message was very clear. He’s off the market this summer. There was no need to bargain with the Azzurri concerning his personal terms.”
According to Corriere dello Sport, Napoli might not sign a new midfielder given the problems for Veiga and Koopmeiners. They have been linked to Lazar Samardzic too. They’d have the same composition as last year, with Jens-Lys Cajuste replacing Tanguy Ndombélé and Gianluca Gaetano possibly featuring more.

Even though they undoubtedly adore the player, it’s doubtful they got that high fee-wise, and it’s abundantly clear Atalanta won’t let him go. They technically don’t need another option, but they should definitely use the budget they put together for the Spanish starlet somewhere.
