Agent Zahavi Blames Napoli Passivity for Failed Veiga Deal

Gabri Veiga is heading to Saudi Arabia just weeks after being heavily linked with a move to Napoli. The Partenopei delayed in matching the €40M release clause set upon his head by boyhood club Celta Vigo, and the player’s agent Pini Zahavi has straightforwardly blamed Napoli’s passiveness as the reason for the failed transfer.

Speaking to the media (via Tuttomercatoweb), the Israeli super-agent shed light on the talks with Napoli.

“Napoli didn’t want to pay Gabri Veiga’s termination clause. The deal with Al Ahli isn’t closed yet, but we’re continuing to talk.”

Celta coach Rafael Benitez himself commented on the imminent transfer despite Zahavi’s caution.

“The player’s life will change for the better. Given his age, he will be able to return to play in more competitive leagues, even if the Arab one is becoming increasingly competitive.”

Napoli struck a verbal agreement with Celta last week for €36M including add-ons, but Al-Ahli have fast-tracked the race to sign the central midfielder on a permanent transfer.
