Ajax Shotstopper Andre Onana Sheds Light on Inter Links

Ajax goalkeeper Andre Onana has long been linked to a move away from Amsterdam, given his inconsistencies after serving a nine-month drugs ban.

He has decided against renewing his contract at Amsterdam Arena, in search of opportunities elsewhere, and Inter have been touted as his most plausible destination. However, he has pledged his allegiance to boyhood club Barcelona as his first choice

In an exclusive interview with Spanish news outlet SPORT, Onana has shed light on his future without giving too much away.

“When you open a door, you close it one day,” he said of leaving Ajax. “We have done everything possible here and made history. This is the end and it’s time for a new path.”

Inter are currently on the hunt for veteran Samir Handanovic’s direct replacement and Onana has been linked with a move to Giuseppe Meazza since several months.

“A lot has been said about Inter, also about Arsenal, Barça, obviously. However, there’s nothing at the moment. The media are part of my life and there are times when I get lost,” he explained.

The Barcelona youth product came through the ranks at La Masia, starting out in 2010, before jumping ship to Ajax’s reserve team, Jong Ajax, in 2015.

Speaking of which, he said: “I am still in contact with Barça. I have kept a really good relationship with them since I left. Barça is my home and there’s always been contact.”

25-year-old Onana has spent all his playing career at Ajax and for the first time since 2015, he looks set to play elsewhere.
