Alessandro Costacurta Backs Milan Defenders to Become ‘Extraordinary’

Milan legend Alessandro Costacurta believes the Rossoneri defenders have all the abilities to become ‘extraordinary’ as they continue to learn from their mistakes. The reigning Italian champions linger in second position, six points behind league leaders Napoli.

Costacurta, who made more than 650 official appearances for the Rossoneri, thinks the young players currently at Stefano Pioli’s disposal will learn as matches come along.

“They are very young players, playing man against man is a little easier to make mistakes. They have to get used to it, because it is the improvements that will allow them to become extraordinary.” (via MilanNews)

Milan currently have one of the youngest defensive squads in the league, with an average age of 25.1 considering their five center-backs, two left-backs and three right-backs. Simon Kjaer is the oldest at 33, whereas Schalke loanee Malick Thiaw is the youngest at 21.

The Rossoneri have proved their mettle defensively this season too, with 14 goals conceded from their 13 encounters so far – the joint-fifth lowest conceded alongside Udinese.
