Lazio steamrolled past a lowly Sassuolo side upon Serie A’s return after the international break, claiming a comfortable 2-0 win at the Mapei Stadium. Neroverdi headed into the two-week pause winless in back-to-back league games, but they’ve seemingly failed to regroup.
Alessio Dionisi’s side delivered another abysmal performance, making numerous rookie mistakes at the back, which helped Lazio cruise to a routine victory. Sassuolo gave the ball away cheaply at the back, allowing the visitors to break the deadlock on the stroke of the half-hour mark.
Luis Alberto stole the ball in the dangerous area and played it to Taty Castellanos, who found Felipe Anderson unmarked on the edge of the box. The Brazilian forward was ruthless, beating Andrea Consigli in a one-on-one situation to mark the beginning of the end for Sassuolo.
The underperforming hosts never found their way back into the game. In fact, another chaotic reaction inside their six-yard box led to another cheap Lazio goal. A loose ball fell nicely for Alberto, who had no problems putting it past in-form Sassuolo keeper Consigli from point-blank.
Consigli’s brilliant performance was the only reason Sassuolo didn’t suffer a more embarrassing defeat. Dionisi was aware of his team’s dreadful display as he slammed his players in the aftermath.
“It’s hard to think we’re going to do worse in the first half, we did everything we shouldn’t have done. There were major mistakes in our performance. There are Lazio’s merits and our demerits,” the Sassuolo boss said, as quoted by Tuttomercatoweb.
“Honestly, at half-time everyone was heartbroken. There were those who were disappointed, those who were dejected for having compromised the result in the first half.“
