Sassuolo tactician Alessio Dionisi spoke to La Gazzetta dello Sport (via FCInterNews) in an exclusive interview and shed light on a host of topics, including the new Serie A season, last campaign’s exploits against the top dogs, the loss of Gianluca Scamacca and the arrival of his direct replacement Andrea Pinamonti.
The Tuscan coach also believes it would be in the best interest of every team if the summer window ended before the league season began.
“It would be better if the transfer market closed before the start of the championship, but we coaches must take the pros and cons of this job. After all, at the time of Covid you didn’t know who would play until that morning or in the evening. Everything can be overcome, the most important thing is avoid giving alibis to the group.”
Dionisi was then quizzed if it was something that worried him.
“That’s not the right word. I don’t take anything for granted. We need to renew our ambition and motivations. We are not starting from last year’s 50 points, 64 goals scored and 66 conceded. Let’s start with the defeat against Modena in the Italian Cup. You can’t make comparisons with the previous Sassuolo, but with the potential of this one.”
The Neroverdi cruised to away wins at Juventus, Milan and Inter for the first time in their history. They beat Juve 2-1, Milan 3-1 and Inter 2-0. Dionisi thinks it will be impossible to repeat that feat.
I would like to repeat at least the same path, but, for example, I know that winning again at Milan, Inter and Juve will be impossible. And then we have to find those points elsewhere. With the right spirit and daily work we can have our satisfactions anyway.”
Dionisi and Sassuolo lost Scamacca to a high-profile move to Premier League outfit West Ham United, which he reflected upon.
“We will miss his technique and athletic presence. Agustin Alvarez is younger, he comes from South America and needs time. However, he is ambitious and available”.

Andrea Pinamonti will be Scamacca’s direct replacement from Inter, and Dionisi addressed the newcomer.
“He would be the ideal substitute for Scamacca: he too is young and will want to prove his worth. He is a complete first striker who fills the area and knows how to play with his teammates.”
The Neroverdi will kick their challenge for a high finish in the 2022/23 Serie A campaign with a visit to Juventus’ Allianz Stadium.
