Coach Massimiliano Allegri touched on a few topics before the clash with Napoli. He addressed the future of Alvaro Morata: “He will not leave. He scored 21 goals last year, and he is already up to 7. His problem is that he is always heavily scrutinized for his flaws, but he is a productive player. I talked to him and told him that he would not transfer. We would have to find a great striker to replace him. He will stay with us with great enthusiasm. Instead, Aaron Ramsey returned from England today and is on his way out.”
Allegri updated on the injuries: “The squad worked well, and we needed it. Leonardo Bonucci will be out tomorrow and against Roma. We will re-assess him before the Supercoppa. Danilo will return next week. Luca Pellegrini and Kaio Jorge have the flu and trained on the side. We are waiting for the latest COVID-19 test for Arthur.”
Allegri will not have many choices at his disposal against Napoli: “Since Ramsey and Arthur are out, Manuel Locatelli will anchor the midfield and will be joined by two other players.”
The game is in doubt due to an outbreak within the Partenopei: “We can just practice and make do with what we have. It is up to the authorities to decide. We need to find new solutions given the emergency. My opinion means nothing. We just follow the rules.”
On top of the Napoli bout, Allegri weighed in on the transfer market: “I think there are 99 percent chances the roster will not change. The attack did their part. We are missing some production from midfielders and set pieces. Paulo Dybala and Federico Chiesa will help us a lot. January purchases are not very impactful.”
