Ancelotti Favorite to Lead Brazil Ahead of 2024 Copa América

Carlo Ancelotti might be at the business end of his club career, but that has not dwindled the interest in him from international federations, as Brazil seek the Italian veteran to become their new coach. The Seleção are currently led by interim manager Ramon Menezes, and they are eager for Ancelotti to join them as soon as Real Madrid’s season finishes.

Confederação Brasileira de Futebol (CBF) president Ednaldo Rodrigues has given out a full disclosure regarding the interest in Ancelotti in an exclusive interview with Reuters (via Calciomercato).

“Ancelotti is an obvious choice. He enjoys unanimity not only among the players but also among the fans. He is respected by all players, past and present – not just from Ronaldo or Vinicius Junior, but from everyone who played for him. He has all my admiration for the honesty and quality that he applies to his work on a constant basis, and needs no introduction whatsoever. Ancelotti is truly a top coach who has won a lot and I hope he can continue to win a lot.”

Rodrigues also echoed the voice of the fans, saying Ancelotti is loved in Brazil.

“Ancelotti is not only the favorite candidate of the players, but also of the fans. Wherever he goes in Brazil, in any stadium, he is the first name the fans ask me about. They speak very fondly of him, acknowledge the exemplary work he has done throughout his career. We have to have faith in God, let’s wait for the right moment and we’ll see if we can do it, since we’re looking for a new coach for the national team.”

Ancelotti is currently in his second stint at Real Madrid and is contracted with them until 2024. The former Milan tactician was Italy’s assistant manager from 1992 to 1995, but if he takes up Brazil’s offer, it will be his first national managerial role
