Ancelotti: “Napoli Clash Most Difficult for Real Madrid”

Carlo Ancelotti has termed the clash against Napoli as the most difficult for Real Madrid in this season’s group stage. The ex-Milan tactician coached the Partenopei for one-and-a-half season between 2018 and 2019 before joining Everton and returning to the Spanish capital.

Ancelotti dished on the high-profile encounter between the two teams in his pre-match press conference.

“Napoli are one of the best teams in Italy. They’ve maintained the same structure. They have a high level, they have individuals, and an atmosphere which pushes them. It’s a return to the past. I had positive moments there, in a marvelous city. Some good moments, some less good. It’s the most difficult game in the group.” (via ESPN)

Ancelotti parted ways with Napoli following disagreements with club president Aurelio De Laurentiis. However, he maintained it was the right decision to leave the club back then.

“I have a very good relationship with everyone. I’ve always said that when there’s not the right affinity between a club and a coach it’s best to leave. It was the right decision for Napoli and for me too. I’m back with the best team in the world now.”

Madrid and Napoli both have three points each going into the second round of games, with the former edging Union Berlin 1-0 at home and the latter won 2-1 away at Braga.
