“At Least I Did My Duty There”: Ancelotti on Napoli departure

Current Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti spoke about his departure from Napoli, saying that he did his duty there.

The former Milan boss joined the Partenopei in 2018 and managed them for 73 matches, winning 38 of those, losing 16, and drawing 19. He was sacked just after Napoli thrashed Genk 4-0 to book their place in the last 16 of the Champions League. While Ancelotti did end on a high, the team was on a seven-match winless run in Serie A prior to their match against the Belgian side.

Speaking out on his departure from Napoli, the 62-year-old said, as quoted by Calciomercato.com“I left Napoli in the round of 16 of the Champions League … At least I did my duty there”.

After leaving the Partenopei, Ancelotti joined Everton and the club finished 12th in the 2019/20 season. Following the end of last season, he left the Premier League side to join Real Madrid, who seem to be on track for a 35th La Liga title.

Napoli did not too very well under Ancelotti’s successor Gennaro Gattuso but have done pretty well under Luciano Spalletti this season so far. The Partenopei are currently third in the Serie A table with 36 points, two behind leaders Milan.
